The group bio4Environment (bio4E) is integrated in the IBB - Institute of Biotechnology and Bioengineering, Centre of Biological Engineering at University of Minho (Portugal), is associated with the Biofilms Group and is constituted by members of the Department of Biological Engineering. bio4E stands for biofilms, bioenergy, biorisks... all of them bioprocesses!
The general research interest of bio4E is environmental technology. A strong commitment to experimental methods combined with the use of numerical simulation tools is the bio4E strategic approach for research and development. The main research targets are the design, optimization and management of bioreactors (water, wastewater, wastes and air treatment) and the management, protection and rehabilitation of aquatic and soil ecossystems (surface waters and sediments).
Our approach to problems has made interactions with public and private entities quite effective and bio4E is experienced on applied and consulting projects. Besides our core research areas, we have experience in water resources and wastes management, environmental planning, environmental economy, life cycle assessment and sustainability issues.
